What are the badges for?

Badges are issued after you complete all required tasks in an online course.  Unlike scores, grades or certificates that you earn in a course (and must go back to the course to view) your badges are "global" and are attached to your profile, providing an overview of your achievements.

But what about my certificates?

Certificates and Badges serve different purposes and in most cases you would get both upon completion of a course.

  • Certificates provide a printable record outlining the skills or knowledge you attained in a course.  They are well suited as an external, detailed record for you and others to review as required. Certificates are automatically emailed to you when awarded, should you lose them you need to return to the course to generate another copy.
  • Badges are a quick and permanent online record of your achievements that stay attached directly to your profile, all visible on one page.

Where can I see my badges?

Do all courses have badges?

Every course that can be "completed", (having a list of tasks that must be completed to finish the course) will have a badge.  There may be some courses that don't have defined "completion criteria" and for these its not possible to issue a certificate or indeed a badge.

How come I didn't get a badge?

Perhaps the course in question does not yet have a badge allocated? (All courses with a badge will say so in their summary section). If you still feel you are missing a badge than please contact L&D Admin.

What does the shape of the badge mean?

We're using two simple shapes:

  • The round badges indicate a single, stand-alone, course with one or more tasks/activities but still just one course in Moodle.
  • The square badges are the more significant "Programs" that entail completing multiple separate courses.

What do the colours mean?

We're using colours to, where possible, indicate a specific "Learning Pathway" so as to easily identify related Courses.  The colours should not be considered too prescriptively, they just indicate the typical or most likely area of relevance.

A Corporate or "generic" Course applicable to all or many staff

 A Child Protection Course

 A Therapeutic Services Course
